Chicago Tiny House Inc was created as a legal means to help the homeless of our city.

We come with over 35 years of collective homeless advocacy, and most members have or are working with the leading shelters and advocacy groups throughout Chicago.

Most members of our organization have dedicated their lives to helping the poor by advocating, providing food, helping with sleeping bags, tents, and providing community.

One such group of people, used to take care of our viaduct homeless which were called tent city under Lawrence and Wilson avenue in Chicago.

The Lake Shore Drive overpasses needed repair. So in October 2017, the Tent City residents were informed that they needed to vacate, to make way for the construction.

The day before construction was to start, residents vacated the viaducts.and moved to a nearby grass strip on Wilson Avenue which they were prominently evicted from.

We then helped the residents move three more times to three different locations. Each time we were met with police evictions. This ensued a 2 day ordeal of moving and getting “evicted”

There was a final so-called showdown where Chicago Police lined up in numbers “literally one officer in front of each tent.”,  stated they would have to move or else be arrested.

We asked whether they could move to a couple of other locations, but the police said no—if they set up tents anywhere in Uptown, the same thing would happen.

This action led us to form Chicago Tiny House and its endeavors. We hope you will join us in our fight to keep affordable hosing in Chicago.
